Do we want to continue to live in a world that puts profit first over the people? The fact that Trump and the rest of these billionaires are pushing for people to go back to work and risk their lives is disgusting. It’s clear to me that we have focused far too much on the value of economic growth and not enough in our social well-being. The end goal shouldn’t be to own 50 cars, a high end purse collection in a big mansion, is that really going to make you happier? I get being able to live comfortably but let me tell from being an ex-shopaholic those things only give you temporary happiness then proceed to give you a headache later on when you have to keep things organized in your house. (Yes this is to old me accepting random free goody bags with knickknacks I don’t need from college fairs. Why do I have 10 land yards?) We’ve been warned that a pandemic would be coming for a long time. We have been warned that climate change will cause disastrous affects. According to the WHO ,“climate change is expected to cause 250,000 addition deaths per year." Yet our leaders are still failing to switch fully over to renewable energy or focus on a circular economy.
So what world would you rather live in? One that actually cares about you or sees you as a dollar sign? A world covered in smog due to our focus on non renewables or clean and fresh air where we can see the blue sky because we’ve switched completely to renewables? Affordable healthcare or one where you pay an arm and a leg for? I lived in the US and Canada for years now and I can tell you that yes things are more expensive in Canada but at least we don’t have to worry as much about the money we have to pay just to see the doctor or god forbid, go to the hospital (my boyfriend is deathly allergic to things and let me tell you for the amount of times we went to the hospital in Canada, he’d probably be broke in the US). Sorry this wasn’t as positive but someone had to say it. Vote, call them out, vote with your dollar. -Elizabeth
